Hello makers!
Since I started Seek to Make, this newsletter has been my space for exploring creativity through monthly themes, from handmade notebooks to eco-art, patterns and mark-making, to calendars and frames. It’s been so fun to dive into each topic, discover some incredible makers and artists from around the world, and try out some new ideas in my creative practice. I honestly never thought I would love stitching on paper so much!

But as the months have gone on, I’ve felt a quiet nudge… no, actually it’s more like a child constantly tapping my on my arm wanting attention, to shift things. To niche back down, zoom in, and focus more deeply on the kind of making that I truely love: textile art and quilting.
So my plan is for Seek to Make to become more like a studio journal. I’ll be writing about what I’m working on, what’s inspiring me, and what it feels like to live a creative life, including the failures, the wins, and everything in between. This is going to be a work in progress so some posts will be visual (you know I love lots of inspiring images!), some reflective posts, some deep-dives, and some posts will be more raw and imperfect. The constant shifting from one theme to next so far has been a little too much for me. While I’ve enjoyed each topic, I’ve always felt like I was constantly thinking about and planning what was next.
Although I want to slow down and focus my attention more, I still have lots of other things I want to make outside of my textile art. For example, right now I want to make a knitted jumper/sweater, new lampshades for our house, seasonal wreaths, I want to experiment with collaging, and have a go at upcycling some furniture. And there are so many great people doing things in those fields that I still want to share with you! Ah, if only this could be my full-time job!
For those of you who so generously became paid subscribers - thank you! Supporting makers and artists is such a beautiful thing and, through this platform, I hope to inspire more people to slow down and get back to making things. If you decide this is the end of your paid subscription, no worries at all! I’m still trying to figure out what my new format will look like but I hope you will feel like there is value here.
If you want to follow a creative path, you know, with all the doubt, joy, play, and persistence that goes with it, I would love to do it with you. There is nothing quite like a shared journey and that is why I’m here sharing mine with you.
Thanks for being here and I hope you’ll enjoy this next chapter on Seek To Make.
xx
What a great reminder to all of us that we can slow down and settle in. I've been bouncing around too many creative pursuits myself and really want to push myself a little bit farther in my ceramics and sewing journey.
Cheers to you for having this realization and sharing with us all! Excited to see what you get up to in the studio!
Good on you for wanting to personalise and document your creative journey through this newsletter. I really love the honest way you write and will be looking forward to reading about and 'seeing' more beautiful creations you make. Way to go Esta!
