Hello makers,
This is just a short email as I’ve been reflecting and pondering on this newsletter over the last month or so. I really loved reading about the journey other makers and artists take in their creative lives and have enjoyed sharing some local talent with you all. It was a bit of a deviation from my normal posts but it’s been great.

But something has been nagging at me.
I started Seek To Make in October last year and, so far, I’ve been publishing twice a week and covered five different themes plus our Meet The Maker sessions. The problem is, and the thing that keeps niggling away at me, is I spend so much time researching ideas and posting about cool stuff, that I keep running out of time to do much making myself! This led me to write about feeling like a failure last month.
I originally called this newsletter “The 30 Day Makers Challenge”, thinking that it would encompass slow making more than daily creative challenges like The 100 Day Project or Creative Sprint challenges.
But 30 days doesn't feel slow enough anymore! I don't know about you, but I need more time for creating and less time in front of a screen, especially since my other job keeps me on the computer all day. So, I'm considering sending out fewer newsletters. After all, less in your inbox can only be a good thing, right?
AND, I’d like to focus more on my own creativity.
I haven't fully decided yet whether to keep exploring a range of themes (I still have many MANY ideas for things I want to make!!), or if I should narrow my focus and concentrate on developing myself as a textile artist.
What do you think? I’d honestly love your opinion and would really love to know what you would like to get out of this newsletter.
For now though.
Whichever direction this newsletter goes in, I also just want to let you know that I’ll be pausing the paid subscriptions for the month of April. It’s a busy time in our house as both my kids have their birthdays in April, we have two weeks of school holidays and of course Easter, and I just can’t do it all sorry!
But I’ll be back with an update in May and most likely still sharing the odd note about things (hopefully my progress on The 100 Day Project which I’m so happy to say I’m up to day 37 this time around, thats a personal record!).
Until then, please get in touch if you have any thoughts or ideas about Seek To Make. I would really love this to be a two-way street, something that helps both our creative lives.
Happy making,
Esta
Your newsletters have been so interesting and very inspiring Esta. It never ceases to amaze me how many talented makers are out there and that includes you too! I would like to see you share more of your own journey as a textile artist so maybe narrowing your focus is a good idea. A fortnightly or even a monthly newsletter may allow some room for you to actually do some making which I'm sure your subscribers would love to read about and see your progress. Don't give up!
