Hello makers,
Today, I’m shining a spotlight on Jon Foreman, an incredible artist based in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Jon works at all scales, whether it’s using small leaves in a forest setting, lugging stones around on a wild coastal beach, or creating colossal sand paintings that you can only grasp the scale of with a drone.
His work connects with nature, is made from nature, and is ultimately reabsorbed by nature. And it’s this ephemerality, this impermanence, that is so beautiful. Jon describes how important it is for us all to let go of our attachment to permanence. And I think that speaks to our need to focus on the process of being creative, not on the outcome of the work.
He also has a wonderful view on how school can shape our view on being good at art:
If you want to be good at art you have to be able to draw and paint and I don’t think that’s true at all. I think it’s just being creative that matters. There’s an endless array of ways to be creative - Jon Foreman.
Ok, less of me and more of Jon’s amazing land art. If you want to see more I highly recommend checking out his website: Sculpt The World.
Ok, I’ve run out of room so I need to stop. I hope this inspires you to create with what you can find. Or support Jon by going and buying some of his amazing prints!
Happy making,
